Ashley Dias Obituary – Death, Lafayette crossing Guard Accident: On Wednesday afternoon at about 3pm, just outside Stanley Middle School at 3455 School street, Lafayette, two victims (an adult and a child) were involved in an accident . They were hit by an SUV according to reports from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.
The adult victim has been identified as 45 year old Ashley Dias who was a crossing guard. His mother (Gloria Dias) confirmed his death according to Andrea Nakano of KPIXtv’s tweet:
“I just talked to the mother of the crossing guard involved in the accident in front of Stanley Middle School in #Lafayette. She tells me her son has passed away. Her interview on @KPIXtv tonight”.
Diaz was an IT guy who had just volunteered on Tuesday when he heard that there was a shortage of crossing guards in the school. No doubt that Diaz will be sorely missed by all who encountered him especially his mother who he had a very close knit relationship with.
According to Gloria
“About 3 months ago, I had a fall and collapse and I was hospitalized for a month. He took time off from work, he came here. He took care of me, cooked my meals, took me to the hospital, took me to my doctor’s office. He did everything.”
The child sustained minor injuries and has been taken to the hospital for treatment. Gloria told KPIXtv that she met the father of the child involved in the accident and he thanked her son for saving his daughter’s life.
The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and has so far co operated with law enforcement agents.
Some of the residents of the community expressed their displeasure and fears regarding the accident: Stephanie Levine of Lafayette said:
“I’m not surprised. I’m not surprised. I knew this day was going to come because everybody is speeding here”.
