Art Metrano, ‘Police Academy’ actor and comedian, dead at 84.
Art Metrano Death – Obituary: Art Metrano, a stand-up comedian best known for playing callous police captain Ernie Mauser in the second and third “Police Academy” films, has passed away at the age of 84 on Wednesday.
According to report given by his son, the Brooklyn-born funnyman died of natural causes at his Aventura, Florida home.
The son said on his Instagram page, ‘Yesterday I lost my best friend, my mentor, my dad,’ Metrano’s son Harry Metrano posted today on Instagram.”
‘He was and will always be the toughest man I know. I have never met someone who has over come more adversities than him.
‘He’s fought and won so much over the years that I always viewed him as indestructible, but the truth is we don’t live forever on earth, but a person’s spirit can live forever within you.’
‘Dad, you will always be a part of me and I will continue to live out your legacy,’ he wrote. ‘When someone came up with the quote, “legends never die,” I’m pretty sure they were talking about you dad.”
According to information gotten from a reliable source, 17 September, 1989, Metrano fell from a ladder while doing exterior work in his home he hit his head and broke three different vertebrae, which left him a quadriplegic.
He later recovered and started using his arms and legs. He was able to walk again with the help of crutches for a short distance.
He is survived by wife Jamie, sons Harry and Howard, and daughters Zoe and Roxanne, and multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Metrano will be greatly missed. It is really a lost for all. He was loved by people around him, as a stand-up comedian, he put great smiles and real laugh on the faces of many who came across him while he was living.
