Ark City, Rhett Lathers dies in Kay County rollover crash

Rhett Lathers Death – Obituary: On Tuesday night, an Ark City High School student athlete, Rhett Lathers, 17, has lost his life in rural Kay County, Oklahoma rollover crash.

According to initial investigation, around 10:43 p.m. a 2000 Jeep Wrangler driven by Walker Moulton, 18; a former teammate of Lathers and 2021 graduate of Ark City, was moving on a two-lane gravel road at East Judo Road and North Enterprize Road, 6 miles north and 4.5 miles east of Newkirk when it veered off and entered in a ditch.

Authorities reported two the scene, extricated Lathers and Logan Bay, 18, from the vehicle and rushed them to the hospital; Bay was taken to Wichita Hospital while Lathers was transported to Alliance Health in Ponca City where he later gave up the ghost.

Who is Rhett Lathers?

According to report, Lathers was a starting linebacker and tailback for the Ark City football team.

He was also a member of the Ark City wrestling team.

Moulton who did not sustain injuries from the crash was arrested and and charged for driving under influence.

There is no information regarding the other victims of the crash.

The four occupants of the vehicle were not wearing seat belt during the crash.

The crash is still under investigation by the Newkirk Fire-EMS, OHP Traffic Homicide detachment and Kay County Sheriff’s Department.
