27-year-old Shaquille Anthony Barnwell arrested after shooting near Milton
Cabell County sheriff say a man is hospitalized and in critical condition after being shot in the face and chest while returning children to his ex-wife in Milton.
Officials responded to a shooting on Hayleigh Street in Milton at about 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Arriving officers located 30-year-old John Henry Wells III. suffering from gunshot wounds to the chest and face by a suspect identified as 27-year-old Shaquille Anthony Barnwell.
Police said Barnwell surrendered to police upon their arrival to the scene and have been cooperative with investigators.
Preliminary investigations shows Wells was dropping children off at his ex-wife’s home when an altercation ensued leading to Barnwell, whom was the ex-wife’s current boyfriend, shooting Wells twice.
Wells is in critical condition at St. Mary’s Medical Center, where he had underwent surgery upon his arrival to the hospital.
Barnwell was booked at Western Regional Jail in Barboursville and has been charged with two counts of malicious wounding and using a firearm in the commission of a felony.
He will be arranged in Cabell County Magistrate Court on Thursday morning, police said.
